Electrofringe and the University of New South Wales present a performance by artist, academic and computer musician Joe Mariglio.
Joe Mariglio is a sound artist who often explores alternative forms of narrative, kitsch, and masculinity with his work. His work is cinematic, aggressive, and playful. As a performer, Mariglio enjoys blurring the line that separates popular music from the avant-garde. He performs using homemade sound-sculptures, in conjunction with custom software tools he has developed. His recent output weaves such techniques as improvisation, field recording, granulation, self- similarity, microtonality and polyrhythm into a lattice of relentlessly experimental, surprisingly accessible sonic events.
For his only performance in Sydney, Mariglio will play a 45 minute set of
aggressive electronic music, drawing inspiration from experimental,
popular, and film music. It will span a wide range of textures and
moods, from abstract and cerebral to rhythmic and accessible.
He will
blend field recordings and sound design into an engaging experience of
bizarre and entertaining movies for your ears.
